The South Eastern Gundog Society held a novice working test run on field trial lines at Popes Oak Farm, West Sussex by kind invitation of Sheila Chessell.

The weather was cloudy but dry and there was a good entry of 20 novice dogs.

With judges Tony Casserly and Clare Wood on the right and Keith Broomfield and David Horne on the left, the day got underway with a four dog walk-up.

The first round was of marks forward and back with guns positioned left and right, in front and behind the line. Most of the dogs marked well and a good breeze did offer some help to those on the right side of the wind.

After further marked retrieves across the line, 11 dogs were taken forward for some unseens in cover and water retrieves, which led to five dogs remaining for a final clay drive.

At the end of the drive, the dogs were sent for a variety of unseen retrieves from several specified areas of cover.
