Anglesey spring working test

Anglesey spring working test

By Gaynor Bailey

Monday, 01 June 2009

The Anglesey Retriever Club held its annual spring working test at Penmon Priory, Beaumaris, Anglesey, by kind invitation of Sir Richard Williams Bulkeley.

A strong, bitter wind blew all day which made some retrieves difficult.

Judged by Robin Lloyd and Peter Weigh, the puppy tests went well with a good amount of heeling and staying and then some easy marks.

The judges were joined by Gaynor Bailey for the novice test. The 12 entries were all labradors with the exception of one flatcoated retriever owned by Ulrika Williamson.

For the open test Peter Weigh withdrew from the judging as his wife was running a dog. There were nine ‘zero’ marks which was disappointing as the tests were not excessively difficult.

A number of these were caused by dogs refusing to go through gorse in the direct route to a long mark and then, having gone round through a gap, picking the wrong mark out of the left and right.
