Following on from the success of the first ever National Shooting Week last year, the Countryside Alliance (CA) has announced a second week of events will be taking place from May 3-11.

The event, which has the backing of the UK's three major political parties, is organised and funded by the CA on behalf of the British Shooting Sports Council and forms part of its On the front foot shooting campaign.

The promotion of the 2007 event was believed to have reached around 15m people, encouraging them to try shooting for the first time. Around 200 open days were made available by shooting grounds up and down the country, in line with the main aims of the event:

- To provide opportunities to try Olympic and Paralympic disciplines on a nationwide scale.

- To enable anyone to try shooting for the first time.

- To provide a participation strategy as laid out in the government's Charter for Shooting.

- To promote respect for and understanding of legal firearms and airguns.

Charlotte Fiander, spokesperson for National Shooting Week, said: "The success of the inaugural National Shooting Week was a really positive step for the entire shooting community as it brought everyone together to promote our sport to the general public. The events across the country introduced hundreds of new members to the sport, and this year looks to be as promising as ever. With such positive support and praise for last year's launch, this year's National Shooting Week promises to be even more successful."
