An obese American man faces 10 years in jail after it was discovered he was hiding a nine millimetre pistol between his rolls of fat while incarcerated.
George Vera, 25, weighs over 35 stone and was being held in a prison at Harris County, Texas for selling counterfeit CDs.
Astonishingly, Vera had been searched three times before he revealed to prison officers that he was in possession of the gun and two clips of ammunition.
Houston Police Officers Union president Gary Blankinship said cadets are trained to search morbidly obese people: We teach officers to lift up and look under.
The officer may not have arrested anyone this big before.
They can be so big that short of strip searching or searching
cavities, they could miss something like this."
Vera faces a penalty of two to 10 years in
prison for possessing a firearm in a correctional facility, but is currently free on bail of $10,000.
