The location of this hotel is stunning and provides the ideal base to explore.
The Shooting Gazette Good Hotel Guide 2007
With mountains, lochs, salmon rivers and roaming stags it's hard to imagine a better place to enjoy the Highland dream than the Fortingall Hotel.
The hotel won the best Small Country Hotel award at the Scottish Hotels of the Year Awards earlier this year and it is easy to see why.
The location is perfect for exploring and with plenty of local salmon and trout fishing on offer and shooting available at the Glen Lyon estate, there is more than enough for the sportsman.
The road running through Glen Lyon has to be one of the prettiest in the UK. Small settlements dot the route which hugs the babbling river to the left.
With only 11 bedrooms it is certainly a small hotel and the feeling of temporary ownership it gives each guest is advantageous. Sitting in the library feels just like being at home. With friendly, efficient staff and the right approach to d?r and furnishings throughout there is a thoroughly relaxing ambience.
Head chef Ashley Miles knows what he is doing. All the food is well thought out and perfectly cooked. The Aberdeen Angus steak with stilton sauce is a memorable dish.
So, with comfort, style, good staff, good food and fantastic scenery the Fortingall is well worth a visit and is perfectly equipped to deal with shooting parties. Don't miss the 5,000 year old Fortingall yew tree next door either.
