This shooting lodge is perfect for teams of guns visiting high bird territory.
Loyton Lodge is not technically a hotel, it is a purpose built shooting lodge in the heart of high bird country and therefore more than warrants its place here.
Owned and managed by the Barnes family (Alick and his daughter Isobel) the lodge opened three years ago and has quickly become established as a favourite with visiting teams of guns to the West Country.
Set in a tranquil valley on the eastern fringe of Exmoor it is a great place to unwind after an exhilarating day at the high pheasants.
Alick's son Angus used to work for Bonham's and the Game Conservancy and now runs both the Loyton and Combe Sydenham shoots. And these are just two of the many great shoots that are accessible from the lodge.
With 10 double rooms (twin options available), gun room and marvellous dining room in the Great Barn the shooting team is perfectly catered for. Of course well-behaved dogs are also welcome. Visiting teams can select their own menus prior to arrival and the extensive wine list ensures that the connoisseur will be happy.
